Douglas County Video Tour

Douglas County Health Department works closely with local academic partners to provide public health practice experiences to students in a variety of disciplines. DCHD works with UNMC, Creighton University, Clarkson College, Methodist School of Nursing and UNO to name a few.

Field experience for students may include an internship and/or a capstone/service learning experience.

A limited number of student experiences are available throughout the year. The following conditions must be met for student applications to be considered:

  • DCHD must have a Student Affiliation Agreement in place with the academic institution for the student to apply for a practice experience.
  • DCHD currently has Student Affiliation Agreements with: UNMC College of Public Health, Creighton (School of Pharmacy, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing), Clarkson College, Iowa State University for Dietetics, UNMC (Infectious Disease Fellowship Program, Resident Physicians, College of Allied Health Professions and College of Nursing), UNO (School of Environmental Studies and School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation) and Walden University.
  • Student must be an undergraduate level, at a minimum. We are not able to accommodate high school student requests at this time.
  • Agree to an unpaid internship
  • Must sign a Student Confidentiality Agreement with DCHD
  • Must agree to follow all DCHD policies and procedures.
