Show Your Love Campaign Focus Is Healthy Habits Before Pregnancy
Getting healthy is one way to show you care about yourself. Taking steps to get healthy today is also a wonderful way to show your love for the child you may not even be thinking about right now.
Show Your Love, is a new national campaign developed by the Preconception Health and Health Care Initiative (PHHCI) in partnership with Baby Blossoms Collaborative (BBC), a community initiative led by Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) and several local Maternal Child Health Community Stakeholders. Launched today, Valentine’s Day, the goal of Show Your Love is to help women be at their healthiest.
“Our goal is to ensure that every woman who hopes to be a mom understands the importance of preconception health,” Mary Balluff said. “For those women who don’t want to start a family, our message is to be healthy for her, so she can achieve the goals and dreams she has for herself”.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) define preconception health as the health of women and men during their reproductive years. Preconception health focuses on women taking important steps now to protect their health and the health of the family they may want to have sometime in the future.
Baby Blossoms Collaborative believes preconception health is important for women in Omaha. The Collaborative is working with the PHHCI to spread the Show Your Love campaign’s message to women between the ages of 18 and 44. The campaign is designed to speak both to women who are currently planning to become pregnant, as well as those for whom pregnancy may not be in their (immediate) plans.
“Living a healthy lifestyle shows your love for yourself and your future baby, long before considering pregnancy,” said Mary Balluff of the Douglas County Health Department and a PHHCI spokesperson. “A healthy lifestyle can lead to long-lasting benefits for women and their future children.”
