Dr. Larry Figgs Named Division Chief, Environmental Health

           Dr. Larry Figgs has been named division chief of the Environmental Health Division of the Douglas County Health Department.  Â

 Dr. Figgs comes to Omaha from Lexington, Ky., where he was Associate Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health in the Department of Preventive Medicine, at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Howard University in Washington D.C., his doctorate in biology from the University of Louisville, his MPH from John Hopkins University, and a Certificate of Health Care Ethics from Saint Louis University. Dr. Figgs also is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian.

His research emphasis has been environmental hazard identification, hazard exposure assessment, and disease risk, especially cancer associated with environmental exposure.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Figgs received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.

The Lexington, Ky., native is married with four adult children.
