Douglas County Health Department Offers Cool Advice
Â
The Douglas County Health Department is reminding everyone to take it easy during these unseasonably warm temperatures.
Â
Outdoor living is popular in Douglas County, but this week’s heat and humidity will make for potentially dangerous conditions.
Â
Ideas for preventing heat-related illnesses include:
Â
·       NEVER leave a person or an animal in a closed, parked vehicle.
·       Drink plenty of fluids, but avoid drinks with alcohol or caffeine, because those ingredients tend to dehydrate you. Drinks with large amounts of sugar are not needed, and water remains the best drink.
·       Outdoor activities should be limited to the cooler morning and evening hours. Athletes who are playing or practicing outdoors especially need to remain hydrated.
·       Those 65 years of age or older are more at risk. You can help by checking on your elderly neighbors.
·       A sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher should be used when outside.
Â
While the official start of summer is weeks away, the conditions that have been forecasted will be physically challenging for many residents.
